On a town trip in Swartruggens, Sarel de Klerk observed black smoke in a field, Sarel and Cinda and Willem went to investigate.
On scene copper were found burning, a method used to get rid of the plastic before selling the copper. While standing there Sarel went around to the other side of the bushes to see if he can spot anyone. While Sarel was on the other side of the bush, a suspect appeared from another bush, telling Cinda and Willem there’s two men burning the cables. When Sarel aproached the suspect, Sarel recognized him from an earlier burglary at the old age home. When we tried to apprehend the suspect he fled into the thorn bushes through the field, we phoned the police station 4 times and no one answered. We then phoned a Colonel from SAPS he dispatched a vehicle, we waited about an half a hour then decided to phone the scrap dealer to come fetch and weigh the copper. We met SAPS on the road informing them we have the copper, we are on our way to to the station. After weighing the copper, 5kg we booked it in at SAPS.
