Eskom is currently running at 65% of its generating capacity. It is trying to subsidise its coal generating capacity by using diesel. Diesel that is shipped here in ships that carry 30 million litres of diesel. Eskom then uses up to “9 million” litres a day to subs idise its lack of generating capacity! Eskom has a jaw dropping debt of over R464 Billion in 2021.According to an article in Businesstech (2020), Eskom’s debt is ballooning by the day. Yet, Eskom is still supplying other countries with electricity, like Zimbabwe, Eswatini (Swaziland), Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, and Zambia.
