Response members responded to a complaint of an unlawful intruder on a residential property. Upon arrival, the suspect had locked himself inside a building. Access was gained and pepper spray was deployed, after which the suspect exited the building. The suspect acted as if he was armed by placing his hand inside his waistband. Responders immediately secured the suspect’s hands and identified the object as an electric screwdriver concealed in his waistband. The suspect was handcuffed and escorted outside for fresh air due to the use of pepper spray. SAPS was contacted by the property owner and responded promptly. The suspect was handed over and transported to the police station. Further inspection revealed that vehicles and a caravan on the property had been searched, with contents disturbed. CCTV footage will be reviewed to locate the suspect’s concealed backpack.
