NCA Responders received a distress call from a concerned friend. The caller reported visiting her sister in town, believing she was at home, but she did not open the door. Unaware to her, that an intruder had broken into the residence while the sister and her 5 year old son and 6 year old daughter were inside.
The intruder held the sister hostage at knifepoint, threatening to assault her. She pleaded for the children to be locked in the bathroom, which the intruder permitted while holding a knife to her throat. Fortunately, the sister managed to break free and opened the door for help. The intruder stole a cell phone, tools, and a small amount of cash.
The NCA Responder proceeded to the scene. While en route along President Drive between the town and Meyerhof, the Responder observed a suspicious individual running past in front of his pickup truck. He pursued the suspect, requesting backup from other Responders.
At the Rotarian homes, the Responder apprehended the suspect, who then attempted to stab him. During the altercation, the suspect broke free and fled the scene. A cordon was established, but despite efforts, the suspect was not located and is believed to have crossed the river to the other side.
The NCA Responder proceeded to the residence to assess access points. It was determined that the suspect had climbed over the fence and forced open a window that had been replaced, entering the property.
The stolen mobile phone was tracked and traced by NCA Cyber and a NCA Responder was accompanied by SAPS Bothaville to the location provided. The stolen items, including phones and tools looted during the incident, were recovered and are now recorded in SAP 13 storage.
All necessary declarations have been made. No injuries were sustained. A security guard has been arranged to secure the premises overnight. NCA is standing down.
