Responders intervened in an attempted vehicle hijacking at a traffic intersection in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, where a male suspect posing as a beggar pointed a firearm at motorists. The suspect pursued a vehicle and clung to the driver’s door handle while the vehicle was in motion. The suspect was apprehended approximately 20 metres from the scene and successfully disarmed. NCA Reaction and SAPS were notified, and members of Norkem Park SAPS responded and assumed control of the scene. The weapon was later confirmed to be a toy firearm, and the suspect was handed over for further processing. Due to swift response and effective situational awareness, a potential hijacking involving three vehicles was successfully prevented.
