Responders responded to a reported break-in at Silverton Radiators in Bothaville. Information received by responders confirmed that the sound of a window breaking had been heard. Upon arrival on scene, responders immediately identified fresh footprints inside the premises. A search of the scene was conducted; however, the person or persons responsible for the break-in had already fled. Responders conducted a further search of the surrounding area. Together with SAPS, responders searched nearby old buildings, where stolen property was located. Items recovered included tools, jumper cables, and other related items. The owner of the premises joined responders on scene and positively identified the recovered items. SAPS booked the items in under SAPS 13. After responders had cleared the scene, street children indicated that they knew who the bag belonged to. Responders and SAPS immediately commenced a search for the suspect based on the information provided. A suspect was subsequently located. The suspect was wearing two different shoes. The right shoe corresponded with a footprint found inside the building on top of a cupboard. SAPS advised that the suspect could not be conclusively linked to the crime based on the footprint alone. The suspect was nevertheless detained by SAPS and is currently being held at the police station. The CRC unit will attend the scene early the following morning to collect fingerprints. Regarding the bag, it was confirmed that the suspect had not opened it and that no tools or items had been removed from inside. It is believed that usable fingerprints may be obtained from the tools and items inside the bag, which may contribute to a positive identification of the suspect and further link the suspect to the crime. Responders are confident that this will result in a strong and positive arrest.

NCA extends its appreciation to all role players for their prompt response and cooperation.
