On 15 October 2025 at approximately 15:36, information was shared on a secure reaction group regarding an unknown male suspect who allegedly stole a laptop and cash from Vryheids Monument Primary School. Photographs of the suspect were circulated, and responders were requested to conduct patrols in an attempt to locate the individual.

Responders conducted area patrols but were initially unable to locate the suspect.

At approximately 18:15, another responder observed a male matching the description and photographs previously circulated. The individual was seen at a business premises in the Arconpark area, where he was involved in a verbal altercation with a shop owner. Responders were informed that the individual had entered a nearby residential property.

Responders proceeded to the identified location and made contact with the occupants. Additional responders arrived to provide backup. The male present was positively identified as matching the suspect observed earlier at the school, wearing the same clothing as shown in the circulated images.

Operational command was contacted and advised of the situation. Instructions were received to detain the suspect, while coordination with SAPS continued. Consent was obtained from a family member, and responders entered the premises. The suspect was located hiding in a room at the rear of the property and was detained without incident.

The suspect denied the allegations and was unable or unwilling to account for the location of the stolen laptop and cash. SAPS members arrived on scene and were fully briefed. During engagement with SAPS present, the suspect admitted to selling the laptop in town but refused to disclose further details regarding the buyer or the money received.

The suspect was formally arrested by SAPS and transported to the local police station. Responders accompanied SAPS to the station, where a statement was taken and a SAPS 14 reference number was issued. It was further confirmed by SAPS management that a case of Business Breaking and Theft would be opened, as entry had been gained and property removed.

Following the completion of statements and handover, responders returned to head office.
