While returning from patrol duties, responders encountered an accident scene. Upon noticing our presence, the driver of a suspicious vehicle immediately turned around and accelerated away. Responders initiated a pursuit, initially based solely on the suspect fleeing the scene.
After the vehicle was successfully brought to a stop, SAPS members arrived and informed responders that a courier vehicle had been hijacked earlier along Viljoenskroon Road, near Vierfontein. The vehicle we had intercepted corresponded with the description circulated in connection with the hijacking.
A significant quantity of cell phones and SIM cards was discovered in the rear of the suspect’s vehicle. SAPS subsequently placed the suspect under arrest.
