03 JUNE 2026

An NCA Responder was contacted by a resident regarding a suspected explosive device discovered on a property in Duncanville, Vereeniging. The resident advised that they were recent occupants of the premises and, while cleaning cupboards inside the residence, discovered an object resembling an explosive device stored in one of the cupboards. The responder immediately attended the scene and secured the area, ensuring that all persons were moved to a safe distance as a precautionary measure. The SAPS Explosives Unit was contacted and arrived on scene shortly thereafter. Upon examination, members of the SAPS Explosives Unit identified the object as an infantry projectile dating back to the Second World War era. Further assessment confirmed that it was a training projectile and posed no danger to the public. According to the explosives specialist, the item had likely been retained as a historical souvenir. The SAPS Explosives Specialist subsequently took possession of the projectile for further processing and safekeeping in accordance with standard procedures.
