At 00:50, the NCA Despatcher received a distress call on the Zello Assist channel from a member who was stranded just before the Brandfort Toll Plaza while traveling from Ventersdorp to Bloemfontein.
The A-frame of their trailer had detached from the trailer body, causing the vehicle to swerve. Fortunately, the experienced driver managed to maintain control and safely brought the vehicle to a stop on the roadside.
The Despatcher requested a pin drop and photos to assess the damage and determine the necessary actions. It was confirmed that the trailer needed to be loaded onto a rollback, and there was no damage to the vehicle.
The Despatcher advised the elderly couple to remain in their vehicle while arranging assistance. A local business in Brandfort was contacted to help.
The members were updated on the situation, and shortly thereafter, the service arrived on scene, loaded the trailer, and transported the couple to the Bloemfontein market for offloading, arriving just before 04:00.
The couple stayed at a bed and breakfast in Bloemfontein and planned to retrieve the trailer after repairs to continue their journey home later in the day.
