On the evening of 28 July 2025, NCA Volksrust Responders received a voice message reporting a farm attack at Herselman farm on the Wakkerstroom road. Responders were immediately activated, and SAPS (South African Police Service) was notified.
Upon arrival, the farm owner was found unharmed. He reported that four suspects, two armed, attempted to break in. The farm owner returned fire after the suspects initiated an attack. Two suspects were wounded, one of whom was handcuffed at the scene and handed over to SAPS. The scene was cordoned off to preserve evidence and secure the area.
The other three suspects fled toward the back of the farm, a heavily bushy area with fields. Responders began tracking them and called in the Wakkerstroom K9 unit. Two K9 teams were deployed, covering approximately 5 km, which led them back to the tar road where they found wires cut on both sides.
Two drones were deployed to sweep the area thoroughly, but the suspects were not located. The K9 units eventually lost the scent, and all teams were stood down.
