The responder received messages from various sources indicating that 5 sluices at the Vaal Dam were going to be opened. The Vaal area had received a lot of rain over the past few days. The responder immediately went out to the Kliprivier to check the water level, and found the river almost at bank height. The responder then began informing all property owners along the river about the situation. The responder stayed in communication with everyone and also placed markers to monitor the water level. Throughout the day, the responder continuously monitored the situation. During the final check at around 18:15, the responder noticed that the river was stabilizing.
