The NCA Volksrust Reaction Unit acted on valuable intelligence received from an undercover informant regarding a suspected buyer in possession of stolen copper cable.
Responders were activated and proceeded to the location with the assistance of Volksrust SAPS. The investigation led authorities to a secondary location, where approximately 40kg of stolen copper cable was found in the possession of a foreign national.
SAPS successfully made the arrest and seized the stolen material.
This forms part of an ongoing investigation into a copper theft syndicate operating in the Volksrust area. NCA will continue to analyse intelligence and collaborate with law enforcement to eliminate this serious threat to critical infrastructure, which continues to cause widespread power disruptions in local communities.
