At 10:55, NCA Gauteng Response Team was dispatched to a building fire reported on Commissioner Street, Boksburg. Emergency services on scene included the Fire Brigade, Graphite Security, FADT Fire and Security, Ekurhuleni Rescue Vehicle, and Disaster Management.
According to eyewitnesses, a gas cylinder explosion in an apartment block triggered a fire that quickly spread, destroying six rooms. The fire extended to affect two nearby businesses.
A local mechanic reported attempting to evacuate the street, expressing concern over a nitrogen cylinder stored in a nearby workshop used for welding, which posed an additional explosion risk.
NCA’s medical responder was informed of multiple individuals affected by smoke inhalation. Medical assistance was provided on scene to two civilians who sustained serious injuries, as well as to two firefighters who sustained minor injuries.
