The NCA received a call from concerned family members regarding an elderly male suspected of experiencing a heart attack. Using location-sharing technology, the individual was traced to a Shell Garage in Randburg.
The dispatcher confirmed the man’s presence at the site by contacting the business located at the dropped pin. Communication was established directly with the individual, and relevant medical information was collected.
A medical responder was contacted, and an ambulance was dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, paramedics assessed the patient—an elderly gentleman—who reported symptoms of headaches and dizziness. However, he declined transportation to hospital, stating that he preferred to wait for his wife, who was returning from the Comrades Marathon, to take him to his personal doctor. His decision to refuse further treatment was respected as per his rights.
All responders were subsequently stood down.
The NCA expresses its gratitude to all involved, including dispatchers, paramedics, and support personnel, for their prompt and professional handling of the situation.
