In their quest for survival, plants have evolved to produce an amazing variety of chemical compounds known as secondary metabolites. These chemicals often serve to deter herbivores and protect plants against numerous dangers. In our human quest to always try what is new or dangerous, we have experimented with these plants and have seen that these same secondary metabolites have a variety of chemical reactions in the human body ranging from euphoria to organ failure and death.
