South Africans are dealing with a troublesome society, characterised not only by desperate financial barriers but also by extreme violent crime. Unemployment drives many to search for alternative ways of income. This hopeless combination of circumstances crea tes lucrative opportunities for criminals. Unfortunately it is mostly the povertystricken percentage of our population that is targeted and it is this project’s purpose to ask the knowledgeable amongst us to educate the uninformed not to fall victim to these crimes. These are the victims that fall through the cracks of society, the authorities and the SAPS and disappear without a trace. The victims might be identified or notified as missing, but they form part of wellestablished syndicates, who drug, ra pe, and sell them off. Ending human trafficking starts with understanding the vulnerability of the victims. We need to understand and address the economic, social and cultural issues that enable this type of abuse.
