There are 2 species of rhino found in South Africa: the White rhino and the Black rhino. Almost 50% of the total black rhino population is located in South Africa, whereas South Africa boasts of having the largest population of white rhinos. Black rhinos are a critically endangered species, and it is estimated that only about 2,000 black rhinos are left in South Africa while white rhinos are classified as near threatened. Today, there are about 27,000 rhinos left in the world.
