Emergency responders received calls about a major heavy vehicle collision on the N12 in Benoni.
The incident began with two trucks colliding. As the trucks moved to the side of the road to exchange information and assess damage, vehicles behind them started to collide. One heavy vehicle braked to avoid hitting the stationary trucks, but a second truck could not stop in time, crashing into a sedan wedged between it and another truck.
This led to a second accident involving the sedan, which had two occupants. The driver of the rear truck was transported to the nearest hospital by ambulance, while the two occupants of the sedan were pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency services responded promptly, but the situation was further complicated by a diesel and oil spill.
The N12 West was closed just beyond Snake Road for a period to facilitate cleanup and ensure the road was safe for other motorists. Our condolences go out to the families affected.
