NCA members received an urgent call for assistance in Danville, Pretoria West. Upon arrival on scene, members found one adult male with a gunshot wound to the right side of the abdomen. No exit wound was observed. The patient was immediately transported via private transport to Eugene Marais Hospital for urgent medical treatment. A second male, identified as the suspect, was found lying on his stomach in the roadway after being restrained by members of the community. He sustained a gunshot wound to the right buttock. As per IER reference number IR108609, SAPS Pretoria West were dispatched to the scene. The suspect was subsequently loaded into a SAPS vehicle for further processing. A case docket was opened. One spent bullet casing was recovered on scene and sealed in an official SAPS evidence bag. The firearm recovered at the scene was also secured and sealed in a separate SAPS evidence bag. NCA members accompanied SAPS to the station, where a case number was obtained. Thereafter, the response team proceeded to the hospital, where arrangements were made for a Chaplain to provide support and counselling to the patient’s family. A SAPS Detective later arrived at the hospital and requested assistance from NCA members to take photographs of the patient’s injuries. Permission was obtained from both the attending doctor and the patient prior to taking any photographs. The patient was classified as Priority 1 (P1) and admitted to High Care Unit 1. All involved services, including the Chaplain, SAPS Detective, and NCA members, subsequently cleared from the hospital.
