PRESS RELEASE

Date: 12/12/2025

Press Release:

National Crime Assist (NCA) is relieved to announce the safe recovery of Hardus Laubscher, who was reported missing after being kidnapped during his journey from Centurion to Jeffreys Bay.

A dedicated NCA Missing Person task team under the leadership of NCA Director and Private Investigator Ben Almero, spearheaded the investigation alongside various local law enforcement agencies.

Mr. Laubscher was last seen on December 12, 2025, in Waverley at approximately 17:15. Following intense efforts to locate him, he was found safe in Sebokeng around 01:16. Mr. Laubscher’s white Toyota long-wheelbase bakkie, which had a motorcycle on the back and a hired trailer, was stolen. Additionally, his mobile phone, wallet, and funds from his bank account had been stolen.

The NCA expresses its gratitude to the Community Policing Forum (CPF) Lyttelton Sector 1, the Sebokeng SAPS, LPR camera companies, First Responders SA and tracking companies for their invaluable support and collaboration throughout this investigation. Their collective efforts were instrumental in ensuring Mr. Laubscher’s safe return.

Though he is understandably traumatized by the experience, Mr. Laubscher is safe and unharmed. The NCA offered to arrange trauma counseling for him.

As we approach the time of year when crime tends to rise, we urge the public to remain vigilant and prioritize safety.

Together, we can make a difference in our communities.
